For foreigners who are traveling to Mongolia need a lot of information. We are providing you those useful information below. 

Duty-Free Items

The following goods may be imported into Mongolia without incurring customs duty:

200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco, 1 bottle of of vodka and 2 bottles of wine and 3 cans of beer; personal effects; goods up to a value of US$1000.

Prohibited items Mongolia; paleontological and archaeological findings without special permission; collections of various plants and their seeds; birds and wild or domestic animals; wool, raw skins, hides and furs without permission from the appropriate authorities.

Currency

Tugrug MNT. The denominations of the banknotes are 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 Tugrug.

USD rate: USD 1 = 2650 MNT Euro rate: EURO= 3014 rated in January 2019

Time

Local Time in Ulaanbaatar is GMT +8 hours. The three western provinces(Uvs, KHovd and Bayan-Ulgii) are one hour behind the capital. Mongolia observes daylight savings time in the summer months.

Electricity

In Mongolia, the current is 220V/50Hz. Electrical sockets take European-style two round pin plugs.

Credit Cards

You can use VISA, MasterCard and American Express cards in Ulaanbaatar at hotels, all airline offices, in all shops and super markets and most travel agencies. ATM machines are available in many hotels, supermarkets and on the main streets.

Store Hours

Most shops and big stores are open 10 am -8 pm.

Best Buys

Cashmere, wool products, leather, jewelry(gold, silver), traditional clothes and vodka.

Communications

In Mongolia there are four mobile phone operators, Mobicom, SkyTel, Unitel and G-Mobile. They provide mobile phone networks. 4G network is operated by all of them and available almost throughout the country. Therefore you can buy SIM card here and keep in touch with your families and friends.

Internet & Email

There are many internet cafes in Ulaanbaatar and nowadays all restaurants, pubs, big stores have WiFi so you can surf the web and access email accounts. Also even you are on a tour you can have internet connections in some villages and cities. Email is the most reliable and quickest way of communicating with outside the world.

Main entry points

There are three main entry points in Mongolia. Chinggis Khaan International airport in Ulaanbaatar, Altanbulag (railway station on Mongolian-Russian border in the north) and Zamiin Uud (railway station on Mongolian-Chinese border in the south)

Personal Items to bring with you

Depending on the season, it would be a good idea to bring warm thin layered clothes such as a waterproof jacket, sandals, hiking boots, a hat and headscarf. Other useful items include photography equipment, audio video entertainment and health related articles such as insect repellent, sun cream, lip gloss, a first aid kit and general medicine for various minor ailments. (Headache, colds, digestive problems or prescription medicine for your personal condition)

Visa arrangements

Every foreign citizen traveling to Mongolia must be in possession of a passport valid at least for 6 months from date of entry into Mongolia. Most foreign citizens need a Mongolian visa to enter the country. Thirty-day tourist visas can be obtained at the Mongolian Diplomatic Missions abroad.
